GO TO TOWN IN THE MONONGAH TOWN HALL ON FRIDAY & CHEER FOR HUSKIES TO BEAT WEST FAIRMONT!!!

  Marion County guaranteed to have state high school football champions in Friday game   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer has arranged for a Friday, December 1 party in the Monongah Town Hall to watch the North Marion Huskies (which absorbed Monongah High in September 1979) and West Fairmont meet to decide which Marion County team gets the 2023 West Virginia state high school title.   Game starts at 7 pm in Wheeling and on a projector that will spew the football contest onto a huge screen in the Monongah Town Hall, where my sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, and me, Class of 1950, conducted our J&J party that drew 40 Lions and Monongah residents a few years back. Folding metal chairs included. Or bring your own lawn chairs. Popcorn and bottled water will be available.                       LEATRICE YOKAY WITH JOHN OLESKY Leatrice Yokay Greaser hospitalized with covid   Leatrice Yokay Greaser, Class of 1950, is in a Fairmont hospital. She got covid. Julie Ankrom, after talking to Leatrice’s nephews John and Stephen Yokay, and tells me “they say Leatrice probably will be moved to Tygart Center nursing care today, one of two facilities in Fairmont (1539 Country Club Road). “She had covid. Hopefully, she is recovering now. “My Mom (Mary Ann Carbone Ankrom) is going to talk to Steven and we will keep you informed of any news we get. “By the way, my father James Ankrom worked as a typesetter at the Fairmont Times-West Virginian. WANDA MAY BRAGG HARBERT PASSES AWAY

  Wanda May Bragg Harbert passes away   Harold Maze informed me that Wanda May Bragg Harbert passed away at the age of 83. She had been living at the Pierpoint Center on the Fairmont campus. She was married to Ted Wilson Harbert. Wanda was born in Arnettsville, West Virginia, to Anna Doris Floyd Bragg and Raymond Bragg. Her siblings Raymond Bragg, Jr. and Norma Jean Bragg Coleman are deceased. Surviving siblings are Don Bragg, Rick Bragg of Cottondale, Alabama, Randy Bragg of Mannington, Sherry Puccio of Monongah and Dottie Harbert of Monongah. Wanda is survived by her children, Rae Ann Carter of Monongah, Bradford Allen Harbert of Monongah and Teddy Wilson Harbert, Jr. of Hutchinson.                    KAREN GOUSH SLOBODA, CLASS OF 1962      Karen Goush Sloboda passes away     Karen Goush Sloboda, Class of 1962, passed away Monday, November 6. Her parents were the late Anthony “Spike” Goush and Norma Goush.   The Goush name traces back to Great Britain and Ireland ancestry. Other Goushes in Marion County history: Dietta Harden Goush, Class of 1959. The late Gwendolyn Ott Goush, daughter of Gordon and Dolly Cole Ott, Class of 1940. Edward Goush, Class of 1933. Helen Ruth Ott Goush, 1947 Farmington graduate. Karen’s obituary: KAREN SUE SLOBODA April 13, 1944 - November 6, 2023   Karen Sue Sloboda, 79 years old, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023. She was born on April 13, 1944, in Marion County, West Virginia. Karen was a proud graduate of Monongah High School and dedicated her career to Westinghouse and North American Phillips.
