OTIS "SARGE" SHAVER CELEBRATES HIS 94th BIRTHDAY

                  OTIS "SARGE" SHAVER AT 94 WITH GRANDDAUGHTER RACHAEL SHAVER Kudos to Otis ‘Sarge’ Shaver, 94 years old!!!   Otis Shaver, Class of 1948, reached his 94 th birthday this year.   Otis’ sister, the Rev. Elizabeth “Betty” Ann Shaver Wycoff, was 82 in 2014 when she still was living on the old home place at the Shaver Farm.   Jim Shaver is their brother.   Tom Dean, Class of 1949, who lives in Altavista, Virginia, is a good friend and classmate of Jim.   Sarge recalled for me a while back:   “ I attended Monongah Grade School grads 5   through 8 and then Monongah High.   "In 1952 I purchased my 1st new Ford from George Hall in Shinnston.   “As a lad I met Rome Lawson. I went to MHS with his grandson, Dr. William “Bill” Lawson. We were in the MHS Band.   "The late retired Major Carrol Laswell, Bill & myself were regulars during our Monong...

JIM McDANIEL CELEBRATES 81st BIRTHDAY

                   Jim McDaniel in Air Force and in recent years 81 st birthday for Jim McDaniel   Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, celebrated his 81 st birthday August 18. Jim lives in Behoboth Beach, Delaware. Jim spent in the Air Force serving his country for 23 years. He reached the rank of senior master sargent. His grandfather, Carroll Currey, owned the hotel, bank and movie theater in Monongah, all in the same block. Carroll also had a car dealership on 7th street in Fairmont. Jim's mother's sister was Ava Currey Cogar, who lived across U.S. 19 (Camden Avenue) with her husband Fred and was the best friend of my mother, Lena Futten Olesky. I listened to Ava cuss like a sailor during her visits to our Church Street home. Jim met two Monongah High graduates during his Air Force years, Sam Bearden and Larney Cain, both from Carolina.   Birthday party worthy of royal event!   Sue Schrader, Class of 1971, really enjoyed her 70 th birthday part organized by her sister, Kitty Morrison, Class of 1968, with a flourish that was unbelievable.   Sue posted:   “Thank you so much everyone for taking time from your holiday weekend to come celebrate my 70th birthday with me. The day turned out so well, the weather even waited until 9 pm to storm.   “My sister Kitty Morrison did an amazing job. I know I don’t say it enough, but I want you to know how much I appreciate all that you do. Thank you to all who helped with the party, Shelly Yankie and Breanna Stewart. The pepperoni rolls, chicken, hot dogs and sauce, cupcakes and cake were amazing.   “ Kathy Lynn Morrison the meatballs were amazing. Baked beans, so good.
