  Marion County guaranteed to have state high school football champions in Friday game   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer has arranged for a Friday, December 1 party in the Monongah Town Hall to watch the North Marion Huskies (which absorbed Monongah High in September 1979) and West Fairmont meet to decide which Marion County team gets the 2023 West Virginia state high school title.   Game starts at 7 pm in Wheeling and on a projector that will spew the football contest onto a huge screen in the Monongah Town Hall, where my sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, and me, Class of 1950, conducted our J&J party that drew 40 Lions and Monongah residents a few years back.     1973 Monongah High state champs to be honored Are you one? Or do you know how to contact any 1973 players?   Monia Jo Preolitti Thomas, my   Fazio family tree cousin, and Goldie Huffman are trying to contact as many members of the 1973 Monongah High state championship football team to honor them at the annual lamb roast, which will be August 1. The 1973 team was among FIVE state football champs at Monongah High, beating South Harrison, 21-20. The others came in 1952, coached by Jim Feltz, when Monongah beat Winfield, 20-14; in 1955, with Feltz again the coach, when the Lions beat Wirt County, 14-13; and in 1968 and 1969, with Alabama football coach Nick Saban the 1968 quarterback, beating Paden City both years, 20-12 and 26-0.   Jim Feltz’ son, Jay Feltz, quarterbacked the 1973 team.
