Don ‘Jake’ Halpenny passes away

 

 

Donald “Jake” Halpenny, Class of 1950, passed away Monday, April 15 in Fairmont.

 

His parents were Luella May Kanavy Halpenny and Harvey Halpenny, who car we rode in often as teenagers with Jake driving it.

 

Don was the widow of Anita Rosalee Cremeans Halpenny.

Their 5 children are Keith Halpenny, Brian Halpenny, Kathleen Halpenny Comas, Colin Halpenny and the late Shawn Halpenny. They have 9 grandchildren.

 

Don’s brother, John Halpenny, predeceased him.

 

Don was buried Friday, April 19 at Beverly Hills Memorial Garden in Morgantown.

 

Don, called “Jake” when he ran around with what I called faceitiously The Gang That Terrorized Marion County (we were harmless), is a

 

Fairmont State graduate. Jake, Class of 1950, lives with his daughter Kathleen, a retired nurse. His late wife, Anita Rosalee Cremeans, had 5 children – Brian, Colin, Kathleen, Keith and Shawn – and 9 grandchildren.

 

 

Don/Jake retired from Monongahela Power Company, now Allegheny Power, after 40 years at the Rivesville power station.

 

Music was Don’s passion. He was in the West Virginia Air Reserve National Guard band for 31 years, till 1981, the  United Mine Workers band in Monongah till it disbanded, the Virgil Vingle Orchestra for 21 years and Fairmont and Clarksburg community bands.

DONALD LAWRENCE HALPENNY

August 15, 1932 - April 15, 2024

 

Donald Lawrence Halpenny, 91, of Fairmont, passed away Monday, April 15, 2024. He was born August 15, 1932 in Morgantown, a son of the late Harvey L. Halpenny and Luella Mae Kanavy Halpenny.

Donald was employed by the Rivesville Power Station and was a member Army Reserve.

Donald is survived by his children, Keith Allen Halpenny and his wife Melissa, Brian Michael Halpenny and his wife Frances, Kathleen Erin Comas, and Colin Neil Halpenny; grandchildren, Madison, Garrett, Mia, Mariah, Carley, Anna-Marie, Christopher, and Joshua; and great grandchildren, Alynn, Nevaeh, and Raiden.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Anita R. Halpenny; a son, Shawn Patrick Halpenny; a grandson, Tyler; and a brother, John Arthur Halpenny.

The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Avenue in Fairmont, on Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be on Friday, April 19, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Bill Preston officiating.
