Lions Roar Again gathering in Sarasota Feb. 16. Want to join us?

 

The Lions Roar Again get-together in Sarasota, Florida will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 at the Der Dutchman Amish Kitchen. I’ve been there time after time in my Florida winterizing and their food is great!

 

Bill Meredith, Class of 1957, who lives in Sarasota and has been in contact with me, made the reservations.

Because Joan and I will be flying to Sarasota EARLY Thursday morning it’s too late to say you’re coming by Facebook or email. Just phone John or Bill between now and Feb. 15. Bill set it up for 12 but there’s room for more.

“We are all set for a lunch on Friday, February 16 at 12:30 PM at the Der Dutchman Amish Kitchen. It is a wonderful buffet or you can order from a menu.

 

“We have a section of their Banquet Room (semi-private) We can stay and talk as long as we want. I told them we could have up to 12 people. If more show up, no problem.

 

“The address is 3713 Bahia Vista St.—Sarasota, FL. The reservation is for “Meredith”. Their phone number is (941) 955-8007.

 

“See you on the 16th or before. I’ll notify Lloyd Schell and Sandra (Weils) & Bob Cook.”

 Lloyd Schell, Class of 1957, lives in Pompano Beach, Florida.

  Military hero Leon Charles Trader Passes away   Leon Charles Trader, who started with the Class of 1966 at Monongah High but left to join the Army. He was wounded in Vietnam, earning him the Purple Heart.   Everson resident Joseph Bombard , Class of 1966 along with Joe’s wife, Marva Holt Bombard, told me:   “ John Olesky , I knew Mr. Trader very well. He would have graduated class of 1966 but he quit school and joined the Army and was sent to Viet Nam where he was injured and received the Purple Heart.   “We grew up together in Everson. We hunted, fished and played kids sports together. Both our fathers were coal miners in those days. We played our sports games in a pasture field. We where really close.”   Fishing buddies is correct. JAMIE DAVIS RICHARDS PASSES AWAY. DAUGHTER OF MINNIE DAVIS AND CHICK DAVIS

  Jamie Davis Richards passes away   Jamie Davis Richards passed away. Her parents are Mary Ann “Minnie” Davis and Harry W. “Chick” Davis. Jamie’s siblings are Dianna Davis Fugera, Class of 1975 and Mark Davis, Class of 1978. Jamie married Tony Richards.   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer posted: “ It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jamie Richards passing this evening after her courageous battle with cancer. Please join me in keeping her entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jamie's strength and resilience will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Jamie.”

          BOB AND SHERRY MYERS COLANERO BURIAL JANUARY 12 Bob and Sherry Myers Colanero burial January 12   Bob Colanero, Class of 1960 passed away December 11 and his widow, Sherry Myers Colanero,   passes away two days later.   They will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with military honors on January 12, 2024. I missed it but Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, who lives in Behoboth Beach, Delaware, sent me the sad news, posting “So much sadness in the world.” Jim served in the Air Force for 23 years. His grandfather, Carroll Currey, owned the hotel, bank and movie theater in Monongah, all in the same block. Carroll also had a car dealership on 7th street in Fairmont. Bob’s sister, Judith Nicola Colanero, predeceased Bob. Another sibling, Danny Colanero, lies in North Carolina with wife Linda. Judy’s brother, Paul Colanero, passed away in Georgia.
