George Michael Mozuke passed away in 2019

 

I just found out that George Michael Mozuke, Class of 1956, passed away in 2019. Cawley & Peoples Funeral Homes in Williamtown, West Virginia handled his arrangements and cremation.

George was on Monongah High’s only state championship baseball team in 1955 with star pitcher Frank DeMoss the superstar of that team.

Others in the 1955 photo include Jim Wright, Pete Cameon, Jerry Carlson, Danny Manzo, Jim Domico, Joe Martin, Earl Walker, Henry “Dinkle” Martin, Merlin Davidson, Pat Madden, Marko Tarley, Bernie Vingle of the famous Vingle musical family, Gary Fisher, Ronnie Vingle, Jim Bob Starcher, Michael Shaffer and George Martello.

George Mozuke also was in the Letterman’s Club photo in the 1956 yearbook.

Sue Mozuke, married to John Mozuke,  is a Shinnston High Class of 1960 graduate who informed me of George’s passing. She’s an insurance agent living in Williamstown who once lived in Enterprise.

Sue posted to me:


“He was an avid sports fan and loved to fish. He never met a stranger. He worked at Shell Chemical. He never married.”

Sue and John have a son, John, Jr. (just like my name and appendage).

Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, told me:

"George was a hell of a softball pitcher. I was friends with all 3 of the Mozuke's -- John, Paul and Deanna -- in Georgetown, Delaware.

"George always hung out at Orie's gas station in Worthington."

"My brother Freddie is 1st one in the 3rd row. He passed away Oct. 8, 2021. I miss him so much. My heart will always hurt. This is a beautiful picture."

  Military hero Leon Charles Trader Passes away   Leon Charles Trader, who started with the Class of 1966 at Monongah High but left to join the Army. He was wounded in Vietnam, earning him the Purple Heart.   Everson resident Joseph Bombard , Class of 1966 along with Joe’s wife, Marva Holt Bombard, told me:   “ John Olesky , I knew Mr. Trader very well. He would have graduated class of 1966 but he quit school and joined the Army and was sent to Viet Nam where he was injured and received the Purple Heart.   “We grew up together in Everson. We hunted, fished and played kids sports together. Both our fathers were coal miners in those days. We played our sports games in a pasture field. We where really close.”   Fishing buddies is correct. JAMIE DAVIS RICHARDS PASSES AWAY. DAUGHTER OF MINNIE DAVIS AND CHICK DAVIS

  Jamie Davis Richards passes away   Jamie Davis Richards passed away. Her parents are Mary Ann “Minnie” Davis and Harry W. “Chick” Davis. Jamie’s siblings are Dianna Davis Fugera, Class of 1975 and Mark Davis, Class of 1978. Jamie married Tony Richards.   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer posted: “ It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jamie Richards passing this evening after her courageous battle with cancer. Please join me in keeping her entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jamie's strength and resilience will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Jamie.”

          BOB AND SHERRY MYERS COLANERO BURIAL JANUARY 12 Bob and Sherry Myers Colanero burial January 12   Bob Colanero, Class of 1960 passed away December 11 and his widow, Sherry Myers Colanero,   passes away two days later.   They will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with military honors on January 12, 2024. I missed it but Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, who lives in Behoboth Beach, Delaware, sent me the sad news, posting “So much sadness in the world.” Jim served in the Air Force for 23 years. His grandfather, Carroll Currey, owned the hotel, bank and movie theater in Monongah, all in the same block. Carroll also had a car dealership on 7th street in Fairmont. Bob’s sister, Judith Nicola Colanero, predeceased Bob. Another sibling, Danny Colanero, lies in North Carolina with wife Linda. Judy’s brother, Paul Colanero, passed away in Georgia.
