Kay Frances Carson Zickefoose Menard passes away

After checking this article at my request, Julie Zickefoose Dye replied to me:

Kim Zickefoose Pellillo, Class of 1979.

Her brothers Ray Carson, Donald Carson and Lonnie Carson also attended Monongah High.

Lonnie, known as Jerry, played football for Monongah High.

My Mom got married when she was 16.

Kay Frances Carson Zickefoose, who attended Monongah High but I didn’t find her name in the graduation lists I have for every year, passed away Thursday, October 5.

There have been Zickefooses and Carsons at Monongah High over the years but they are not listed in the obituary if they are related, maybe distance relatives.

Robert Morris, Class of 1964, posted:

“Kay has been a friend of mine for several years on Facebook. I was a neighbor of Kay's in Carolina. Lonnie Jerry Carson has been a friend of mine for many years.”

Bob is battling Parkinson’s Disease, as reported on this blog in 2011.

Larry Zickefoose, Class of 1968, whose birthday is July 18, is married and lives in Lexington, Kentucky.

Betty Morris Carson is Class of 1965.

Debra DeFazio Zickefoose is Class of 1968.

Linda Marceller Zickefoose, Class of 1968.

Sharon Zickefoose Lilly, Class of 1965.

Julie Zickefoose Dye, Class of 1979.

Kay’s obituary:

Kay Frances Carson Zickefoose Menard, 83, of Fairmont, West Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 5th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Carolina, West Virginia on May 27th, 1940. She was the youngest and only daughter of the late Ralph R. Carson and Anna Bernice Jarvis Carson.

Kay attended Monongah High School in Monongah, West Virginia where she met and married Master Sergent Noble (Sonny) Zickefoose on January 1st, 1957.

Together they had four children. Kay spent many years as a devoted military wife and mother.

Noble preceded her in death on November 30th, 1981, in Port St. Lucie, Florida.

Kay married Wilfred Claude Menard on December 12, 1987, in Port St. Lucie, Florida, and remained married until her death.

Following their marriage, they found their way back to her home state of West Virginia. Kay enjoyed her role as grandmother and great-grandmother (lovingly known as “Bonana”) as well as cooking and hosting friends and family at her campsite along the Ohio River.

Kay was a devout Christian; she loved the Lord and shared her faith with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 36 years Wilfred Menard (Pepé); her son, Noble (Rick) Zickefoose and daughter-in-law Cindy Zickefoose of Parkersburg, West Virginia along with their daughter, Dallas Kay Garrett (Zachary), and son, Sonny Ray Zickefoose (Moriah); her daughter Kim Pellillo of Fairmont, West Virginia, along with her daughter Sonni Pellillo (Brian Harris) and her son Matthew Pellillo (Gabriella DeLuca); her daughter Julie Dye and son-in-law Allen Dye of Warren, Ohio along with her son, Jonathan Massett (April); her daughter, Hallie Jo Christensen (Richard Malcolm) of Buckhannon, West Virginia along with her children, Drew Christensen (Miranda), Chase Christensen (Kaitlyn Sellers) and Brooke Christensen. She is also survived by her stepdaughter daughter Wendy Menard (Scott Thornbury), and their daughter Erin Duchemin (Daniel); and son David Viens, Jr.

In addition, Kay is survived by her brother Lonnie G. Carson of Fairmont, West Virginia, as well as 19 beloved great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and first husband, Kay was preceded in death by her brothers, Ralph R. Carson and Donald R. Carson, and her son-in-law Jim Pellillo.

In keeping with Kay’s wishes, her family and friends will gather for a celebration of her life, at what had become one of her and Will’s most beloved places along the Ohio River in Parkersburg, West Virginia. The celebration of her life will be held this spring.
