JAY HOLMAN'S SON MICHAEL HOSPITALIZED
Jay Holman’s son Michael hospitalized
Michael Holman, son of Jay Holman,
Class of 1971, has been in United Hospital in Bridgeport since Saturday dealing
with renal failure.
Michael has been dealing with his
health problems “off and on since April,” Jay told me. “He’s struggling” over
his medical problems which include emphysema and is using a wheelchair and a
walker.
Michael,
North Carolina’s Career and Technical Educations Teacher of the Year
for 2017, lives in North Carolina but came to West Virginia to continue his
medical care and be near Jay.
It’s
not a good year for Holman family. His sister Demetrice Merriweather’s only son
Gerry Merriweather passed away at the age of 38 in August.
Jay’s
father passed away in 1997.
Jay and his wife, Fairmont West Margaret,
will be celebrating their 50th (!) wedding anniversary January 19,
2024. They were married in Fairmont in 1974.
They have 3 sons, Michael, Chicago
banker Jay III and Robert, who works for the federal government out of
Clarksburg.
Jay has visited Minerva and Medina in
Ohio. His company was in Medina so he came to the home office often.
He retired recently after job stops at Cox’s Plus 1 Communications in Virginia Beach, Virginia, in St.
Joseph, Missouri working for SuddenLink, professional photographer and sales
and leasing consultant for an auto business in Durham, North Carolina.
Jay was
a ground mechanic for the Air Force during the Vietnam War.
Jay missed the 2016 Monongah High
Alumni Banquet, where he usually has a reunion with Ahouse sisters Kitty
Morrison and Sue Schrader, because his wife Marget had to go to the hospital
for tests.
His
Class of 1971 gets together more often than any other Monongah High alumni
group.
Jay
also is quite familiar with Crown of Rocks when it’s drinking time.
Jay’s siblings include Avishalom Anwar
Nelson, Dwight Holman, Demetrice Merriweather and Tony Holman.
Jay grew up in Carolina while attending
Monongah High. He got his masters in science from WVU.
Holman is an English and Dutch surname
that first appeared in records in 1327.
