Donna Davis has 129 reservations for 100th annual Monongah High Alumni Banquet.

It has all the makings of a chance to see a lot of your former classmates and current friends if YOU make YOUR reservation!

Only 72 showed up in 2022 for the special 100th gathering will be much more impressive and more fun.

I’ll be there with Joan, my non-Lion guest from Maryland, my sister, Jackie Olesky Straight, Class of 1955, who lives in Rivesville, and Jackie’s daughter, Renee, a pharmacist at WVU Medicine in Morgantown.

Print up and mail in your reservation with $30 per person attending or just call Donna Davis directly at (304) 534-5636 or, if you live in Marion County, stop by her Monongah house at 858 Park Avenue near the Mount Calgary Cemetery.

Linda Lopez Gandy, Monongah Alumni Association president, added this reminder:

"Remember the registration cutoff date is May 22 for the Monongah High School Alumni Banquet. We have to give the caterer the total count on that date."

So, get your reservation in NO LATER THAN MAY 22 or it's too late. You'll have to read about all the fun on this blog, with photos, after the 100th happens. The recalling good times, classmates, friends.

  Military hero Leon Charles Trader Passes away   Leon Charles Trader, who started with the Class of 1966 at Monongah High but left to join the Army. He was wounded in Vietnam, earning him the Purple Heart.   Everson resident Joseph Bombard , Class of 1966 along with Joe’s wife, Marva Holt Bombard, told me:   “ John Olesky , I knew Mr. Trader very well. He would have graduated class of 1966 but he quit school and joined the Army and was sent to Viet Nam where he was injured and received the Purple Heart.   “We grew up together in Everson. We hunted, fished and played kids sports together. Both our fathers were coal miners in those days. We played our sports games in a pasture field. We where really close.”   Fishing buddies is correct. JAMIE DAVIS RICHARDS PASSES AWAY. DAUGHTER OF MINNIE DAVIS AND CHICK DAVIS

  Jamie Davis Richards passes away   Jamie Davis Richards passed away. Her parents are Mary Ann “Minnie” Davis and Harry W. “Chick” Davis. Jamie’s siblings are Dianna Davis Fugera, Class of 1975 and Mark Davis, Class of 1978. Jamie married Tony Richards.   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer posted: “ It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jamie Richards passing this evening after her courageous battle with cancer. Please join me in keeping her entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jamie's strength and resilience will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Jamie.”

          BOB AND SHERRY MYERS COLANERO BURIAL JANUARY 12 Bob and Sherry Myers Colanero burial January 12   Bob Colanero, Class of 1960 passed away December 11 and his widow, Sherry Myers Colanero,   passes away two days later.   They will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with military honors on January 12, 2024. I missed it but Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, who lives in Behoboth Beach, Delaware, sent me the sad news, posting “So much sadness in the world.” Jim served in the Air Force for 23 years. His grandfather, Carroll Currey, owned the hotel, bank and movie theater in Monongah, all in the same block. Carroll also had a car dealership on 7th street in Fairmont. Bob’s sister, Judith Nicola Colanero, predeceased Bob. Another sibling, Danny Colanero, lies in North Carolina with wife Linda. Judy’s brother, Paul Colanero, passed away in Georgia.
