Time running short for 100th MHS Banquet reservations!!!

 

Monongah High Alumni Association treasurer Donna Davis, who has handled the annual MHS Banquet reservations and admission payments for years, reminds everyone that you need to notify her no later than May 22, when she will call the caterer with the head count for the 100th Monongah High Alumni Banquet at the Knights of Columbus on Mary Lou Retton Drive in Fairmont.

 

Donna posted:

“If you plan to attend send your reservation or drop them off at my house. If you want a commerative coffee cup or tumbler for the 100th year let me know. Hope to see you all there.”

If you’re in Marion County you can drop off your reservation and payment ($30 per person) at Donna’s house, 858 Park Avenue, Monongah.

If you mail the reservation and payment ($30 per person), mail it to:

The 100th anniversary cups and tumblers (I’ve already ordered 6 of each for myself) cost $10 per cup or $25 per 16-ounce metal tumblers. Donna will only round up the number of cups ordered so she doesn’t get stuck the extra.

If you’re in Marion County you can  pick up the cups and tumblers at Donna’s house. If not, she’ll have them ready for you when you show up at the 100th MHS Banquet on May 27.

  Military hero Leon Charles Trader Passes away   Leon Charles Trader, who started with the Class of 1966 at Monongah High but left to join the Army. He was wounded in Vietnam, earning him the Purple Heart.   Everson resident Joseph Bombard , Class of 1966 along with Joe’s wife, Marva Holt Bombard, told me:   “ John Olesky , I knew Mr. Trader very well. He would have graduated class of 1966 but he quit school and joined the Army and was sent to Viet Nam where he was injured and received the Purple Heart.   “We grew up together in Everson. We hunted, fished and played kids sports together. Both our fathers were coal miners in those days. We played our sports games in a pasture field. JAMIE DAVIS RICHARDS PASSES AWAY. DAUGHTER OF MINNIE DAVIS AND CHICK DAVIS

  Jamie Davis Richards passes away   Jamie Davis Richards passed away. Her parents are Mary Ann “Minnie” Davis and Harry W. “Chick” Davis. Jamie’s siblings are Dianna Davis Fugera, Class of 1975 and Mark Davis, Class of 1978. Jamie married Tony Richards.   Monongah Mayor Johnboy Palmer posted: “ It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jamie Richards passing this evening after her courageous battle with cancer. Please join me in keeping her entire family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Jamie's strength and resilience will always be remembered. Rest in peace, Jamie.”

          BOB AND SHERRY MYERS COLANERO BURIAL JANUARY 12 Bob and Sherry Myers Colanero burial January 12   Bob Colanero, Class of 1960 passed away December 11 and his widow, Sherry Myers Colanero,   passes away two days later.   They will be laid to rest in a private ceremony with military honors on January 12, 2024. I missed it but Jim McDaniel, Class of 1960, who lives in Behoboth Beach, Delaware, sent me the sad news, posting “So much sadness in the world.” Jim served in the Air Force for 23 years. His grandfather, Carroll Currey, owned the hotel, bank and movie theater in Monongah, all in the same block. Carroll also had a car dealership on 7th street in Fairmont. Bob’s sister, Judith Nicola Colanero, predeceased Bob. Another sibling, Danny Colanero, lies in North Carolina with wife Linda. Judy’s brother, Paul Colanero, passed away in Georgia.
